Matters need attention in designing ladle cover

1. There are normally two kinds of ladle cover, water-cooling cover and refractory material cover. Compared with refractory material cover, water-cooling cover is with much less maintenance work. However, water-cooling cover is with more energy loss, especially for small ladle. It is reported that, for a 300t ladle, the energy loss with water-cooling cover is 12-14%, while as high as 41% for a 40t ladle. Thus energy loss and maintenance should both be put into consideration during designing.
2. To ensure good inner environment in ladle, reduce oxidization of electrodes and slag, reduce molten steel absorbing hydrogen and nitrogen from the air, it’s better to keep a mirco positive pressure status.
3. Deploy a hood on ladle cover and a tube by the side of the hood, or deploy several vacuuming holes under the ladle cover, then connect them to the tube, set a regulating valve plate to form the second vacuuming point in the ladle.

The process of ladle cold maintenance

The process flow of cold maintenance of ladle is: The hot maintenance ladle has to be stopped → Move the ladle to repairing area → Remove the working layer → Mansory → Move the ladle to sintering platform. Please pay attention to the following matters during this process:

1.Check the nominal dimensions of all the shaped refractories to see if they are up to standard.

2.When removing the working layer, make sure there is no steel remaining. Record the damage condition of each area, when the thickness of any area of the working layer is less than 70mm, the working layer should be stopped using.

3.During mansory, check to see if the wellblock is flat, make sure the remaining mortar of permanent layer is cleaned out or repaired before constructing the working layer, the gap between each two fire bricks should be less than 1mm, make sure the last brick of each circle is bigger than half brick.

4.Avoid being hurt by crane, objects, high temperature, etc.
